A place with history, myths and legends
In the past long time ago, the place where is
the Park, was a place of pilgrimage for Mayan groups. In the place
where the river Dolores is born are the cenote and a cave in the
one that did an important archaeological discovery.
After the discovery the step was done before the
IDAEH (Institute
Of Anthropology And History) in order that a raising
specializing in the place was carried out.
There was sent the anthropologist
Brent Woodfill of Vanderbilt
University, who was very impressed and with great emotion, so
then, the cave and the pieces were intact.
It was found that the cave was an important
place of ritual during the Preclassic Terminal (100 AC-250 DC)
and Classic Early. (250 DC-600DC) for the MAYA of
several parts of the altiplane, which use was replaced in the
Classic Late one by use more locally. (Woodfill et 2005)
This cave associated with the
Great Western Route of
Exchange, which followed the rivers Usumacinta and Passion up to
a series of interconnected Valleys ending in Salamá's Valley.
Between the finds one found a box of stone, experts have
described the box as impressive discover of the classic
early period of the MAYAN civilization.
This one is the house of the God of the Moon " Hun Nal Ye
" this way it was made engraved by the Mayan pilgrims
who were coming to be purified in the sacred waters of his
cenote, it does more than 2000 years ago.
To preserve the cave and the vestiges that still exist, the
visits are not included to the interior. But in order that you
do not get lost the opportunity to know these pieces of our
history a small museum has been designed where you will be able
to observe and this way to enter in touch with the past of this
place them.
